Under the general direction of the Chief Investment Officer, the Managing Investment Director (MID), Global Governments & Economics, serves as a member of the CalPERS Investment Office Executive Team, which is responsible for overall risk management, investment performance, financial management, strategy/resource allocation and talent management for the Investment Office and drive our CalPERS mission. Duties include but are not limited to:
• Develops and manages the implementation of investment strategies and policies in the internal international, dollar-denominated sovereign, and global linkers portfolios; evaluate, develop, and recommend innovative and effective international investment strategies; oversee, analyze, and evaluate the external international portfolios to determine whether to recommend increasing or decreasing funding; represents the CalPERS Board of Administration and the Investment Office in the external investment community; manages internal staff and external consultants, monitors and evaluates performance, establishing work flow and setting priorities; and ensures that the internal international, dollar-denominated sovereign, and global linkers investments earn the highest rate of return at prudent levels of risk.
• Provides leadership and management direction to internal CalPERS staff, external advisors and consultants responsible for the management of global government and inflation investments; formulates and implements international governments and currency strategies and policies; analyzes, evaluates and recommends new and innovative investment strategies and programs; coordinates and integrates the international government and currency program with all other investment programs to ensure consistency and high quality across asset classes, portfolios and investment strategies.
• Supervises internal staff and, as necessary, external consultants and advisors, setting objectives and performance standards; monitors and evaluates performance of staff and achievement of objectives; frequently interacts with the investment community; prepares reports and agenda items for and makes presentations to the CalPERS Board of Administration and Investment Committee relating to potential investment opportunities, asset allocation and investment performance and strategy in the global government and inflation areas.
