Role Summary:


Echo Health Ventures is seeking an Associate or Principal, depending on candidate experience, for its Strategic Investment team. The role is responsible for assisting with and leading key aspects of the investment process including deal origination, evaluation, execution, and portfolio management. Echo makes equity investments in venture, growth, and late-stage health care companies, and executes on a strategic thesis-driven investment mandate. The ideal candidate will have a deep working knowledge of the U.S. health care system and have proficiency with or a deep working knowledge of financial statements, valuations, and capital markets. Additional responsibilities will include thesis development, portfolio support, and interfacing with Echo’s Alliance members.


General Requirements (Associate and Principal roles):

  • Passion for health care and transforming the health care industry.
  • Minimum of 3 years (Associate) or 7 years (Principal) of professional finance work experience, which could include investment banking, corporate development, and/or private equity.
  • Majority of work experience spent on health care transactions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Proven ability to make data-driven decisions under strict time deadlines.
  • Exceptional financial and analytical skills with command of valuation methodologies.
  • Preference for transaction experience in health care services, HCIT, and insurtech markets


General Requirements (Principal role only):


  • Minimum of 2 years of experience leading cross functional teams, coaching and/or directly managing staff.
  • Experience on the buy-side of transactions in either a corporate development or private equity role.
  • Increasing levels of responsibility throughout career managing complex transactions from inception to close.
  • Direct experience with deal and contract negotiations, as well as resolving complex business issues, developing complex contracts and serving as a liaison to senior business executives.
  • Preference for experience on governance and serving on Boards.





Functions and Outcomes (Associate and Principal role):


  • Prepare financial models and valuation analysis, projections, ROI analyses, feasibility studies, and other analyses to support investment decisions.
  • Develop forecasts and business plans with data-driven insights with little oversight.
  • Analyze operational forecasts and business strategies for active and potential investments.
  • Participate in business planning, needs analysis, and business risk assessments.
  • Prepare market research and analysis on specific healthcare sectors.
  • Collaborate with corporate functions to evaluate various strategic opportunities.
  • Lead due diligence activities.
  • Participate in sourcing deals.
  • Participate in special projects as needed.


Functions and Outcomes (Principal role only):


  • Oversee and manage the identification and sourcing of compelling investment opportunities to maintain a strong pipeline of quality deal opportunities for Echo.
  • Accountable for creating deal structures that enable earnings growth maximization (through capital appreciation, dividends, etc.) for Echo.
  • Provide expertise, advice and counsel on commercial contracting and structuring opportunities with either potential investments or portfolio companies.
  • Validate strategic rationale and investment team on driving commercialization opportunities and garnering support with core business stakeholders.
  • May lead deal structuring, valuation, financial, and operational due diligence, negotiation and documentation activities, and present findings and recommendations to senior executives and governing board.
  • Serve as key resource to executive management on financial, deal and contract matters central to the investment and divestiture process.
  • Provide executive guidance /direction/insights on deal opportunities to Echo strategic investment team and core business stakeholders.
  • Establish, develop, and maintain relationship with target company, sponsoring VC or PE firm, and other company-specific stakeholders through all phases of the deal.
  • Represent Echo on portfolio company Boards
