Connecticut Innovations (CI) is seeking a venture capital analyst and/or associate to research technology markets and to participate in all phases of the venture investment process including deal sourcing, due diligence, company and industry analytics, financial modeling and CI portfolio company support.

As the state’s venture capital arm and one of the most active investors on the eastern seaboard, CI will give you valuable venture experience in a unique, innovative work environment. CI has a portfolio of 225 companies across various industries and meets with hundreds of companies every year, identifying the most promising early-stage companies looking to grow in the state. Every year, CI invests in 20+ new companies, in addition to providing follow-on capital to more than 50 of its existing portfolio companies. CI has its headquarters in New Haven as well as office locations in Hartford and Stamford.

At minimum, candidates must have demonstrated excellence with a BA/BS in finance, business administration, computer science, life sciences, engineering or other related field, and one (1) to three (3) years of experience in market research, management consulting, equity research, private equity, venture capital, banking, startup or other relevant business or management disciplines. Strong internship or early-stage company experience may be substituted for one year of experience or a liberal arts degree. An MBA or master’s degree in a technical field is a plus. The selected candidate should have high EQ and IQ and be self-starting, curious and flexible; have knowledge of financial statements, market research, business plans and other financial and legal documents; and possess strong oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities include: prospecting for new investment opportunities, screening and analysis of potential investments, conducting due diligence and competitive analysis, financial modeling and valuation analysis, collaborating with and supporting the deal team, preparing reports and proposals regarding potential investments and portfolio companies, presenting investments to the investment committee, and assisting in identifying strategic, marketing and partnering opportunities through networking.

This full-time, two-year durational position will allow the candidate to gain valuable experience toward a long-term, fulfilling venture capital or entrepreneurial career. CI is committed to helping analysts and associates be placed in their career of choice or an advanced degree program.

The selected candidate will be eligible for a package of benefits, including: health/dental benefits administered by Anthem; paid group life, short-term disability and long-term disability insurance; two to three weeks of vacation accrued monthly from date of hire; two weeks of sick time accrued monthly from date of hire; 12 paid holidays; three paid personal days; and access to various other supplemental benefits.  This position currently allows flexible remote work in accordance with the State of Connecticut and Connecticut Innovations COVID-19 guidelines.
