Equities International Small Cap Analyst
Principal Equities, part of Principal Asset Management, manages over $100 Billion in assets and is looking for a US-based fundamental Research Analyst for its International Small Cap team. As a member of the research team, this analyst will make investment recommendations and provide essential insights into industry and regional trends while applying the firm's investment philosophy and process. Consistent across all strategies, our approach is to evaluate and select stocks from a broad investment universe and construct portfolios in alignment with specific objectives and risk management parameters supported by our proprietary quantitative tools. We seek companies demonstrating positive fundamental change, with exploitable expectation gaps and pricing anomalies. Our conviction is centered on bottom-up fundamental insights while remaining macro-aware.
This analyst will provide and continue to build expertise for assigned regions/sectors within the investment universe, which consists of smaller companies in developed markets outside the United States. They will partner closely with other analysts and portfolio managers to provide outperformance through stock selection, while working within the framework of our process and portfolio constraints.
We’re looking for someone with:
- MBA with finance emphasis or Chartered Financial Analyst designation and 2 years investment experience or relevant work experience
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, and solid understanding of valuation techniques
Additional preferred skills and experience:
- Non-US smaller company equity research experience, along with some sector specialization
- Must have the ability to thrive in a team-environment and conduct their work within a structured process and workflow.
- Possess a clear passion for the markets and investing.
- Must have excellent English and verbal communication skills to effectively contribute to our global structure. Additionally, having another applicable language is a plus

Salary Range Information
This role offers the ability for in-office or hybrid (blending both office and remote work in a typical workweek). You’ll work with your leader to determine which option may align best based on several factors.
The preferred location for this position is at the firm’s headquarters in Des Moines, Iowa. Depending on the candidate and circumstances we may consider other locations. Principal has investment team members currently working in Hong Kong, Tokyo, London, Seattle, New York, Chicago, and Des Moines.
