Description

Invest in your future as you invest for our clients

As a Municipal Research Analyst at Western Asset, you’ll play an important role in investing to improve lives. Outstanding client outcomes are our highest goal and the investment insights you provide could ultimately lead to improved infrastructure, improved elder care or alternative education opportunities for disadvantaged students. Working in a highly collaborative team structure with seasoned professionals, you’ll be deepening your research expertise and building the relationships and knowledge that will cement your status a contributing member of the municipal research community. This is great opportunity to make your mark on your sectors of expertise within our highly entrepreneurial municipal fixed-income investment business.

What you will do
•Make actionable investment recommendations in certain high yield municipal sectors including CCRC’s, charter schools, IDBs and certain other project financings
•Provide comprehensive “numbers based” fundamental research and analysis to support and inform your views
•Supplement existing credit team members with routine credit analysis and documentation of high-grade credits (e.g., state and local general obligations and water and sewer credits)
•Work with quantitative specialists and other team members as the “credit expert” to develop automated relative value analysis and credit surveillance applications using technology
•Attend industry conferences on an opportunistic basis to promote Western Asset and to establish yourself as a thought leader in specific credit sectors.
•Communicate with and present to clients as the expert in your sectors

Find a place for your ideas

As the subject matter expert in your sectors, you will collaborate with the wider team to support team investment management activities. This is a fast-moving field, with ever-greater calibration to niche investor needs both domestically and internationally, so there are plenty of opportunities for innovation and development. You’ll have a passion for markets, with outstanding levels of numeracy and excellent powers of analysis.

What you will bring
•At least 5 years of industry experience, with demonstrated knowledge of municipal high yield credits
•Excellent financial and mathematical modelling skills
•The ability to effectively communicate with management and staff both internally and externally
•An undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline
•Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) encouraged (completed, in-process or willing to undertake), MBA or other advanced degree also valued
•Strong attention to detail, analytical and problem-solving ability
